Resin Fibre Discs
|
Resin Fibre Discs are by far the most
popular coated abrasive product used in industry.
Constructed with a heavy vulcanized fibre back, they are
coated with abrasive grains and bonded with a tough, heat
resistant resin. This results in a durable, cool and fast
cutting action. A wide variety of grinding abrasive
material is available so you can select the materials
best suited to your specific applications. Usually only
the diameter, grain size and mineral type need be
specified. |
Features/Benefits
- Each specific disc type has features and benefits unique
to the particular application for which it was designed.
- Electrostatic coating process orients the sharpest
cutting edge of the grain upward and allows for uniform
grain coverage, providing for maximum aggression.
- Individually coated. This process assures consistent
grain dispersion to the outermost edge and most important
cutting area of the disc.
- Completely sealed (front and back) to maintain the
moisture content of the fibre, significantly extending
shelf life under extreme changes of atmospheric
conditions.
- Preshaped to maintain proper assembly relationship
between disc and back-up pad.

Applications
Premium Aluminum Oxide (Closed
Coat)
- For light, general purpose grinding of various metals.
Ideal for rust and scale removal.
- Tough and durable. Most commonly used grain for metal
working applications.
- Versatile, multi-purpose performance at a low cost--the
least expensive disc in the fibre disc family.
Open-Cut Aluminum Oxide
- "The Disc for Grinding Aluminum", as well as
other non-ferrous metals and soft malleable materials.
- Patented "Island Pattern" grain configuration.
- Grain configurations virtually eliminate
"loading", the build-up of removed material on
the disc surface.
Premium Alumina Zirconia
- Excellent performance on stainless steel. Recommended for
heavy weld and metal grinding.
- High performance disc with a fast cut rate.
- Tough self-sharpening grain.
- Requires medium to heavy operator pressure for optimum
performance.
- Cool grinding action reduces glazing and loading.
Bi-Cut Alumina Zirconia
- Excellent for flat grinding of composite materials,
fiberglass, body filler and paint. Widely used by ship
builders and auto body repair shops.
- Patented "Island Pattern" grain configuration.
- Combines rugged, high performance Zirconia grain with
non-loading characteristics.
CG Ceramic Grain
- For superior grinding and finishing on all types of
carbon steel.
- Twice the life and three to four times the performance of
similar aluminum oxide discs.
- This revolutionary grain, the latest generation of
synthetic metal cutting minerals, was developed for the
most demanding grinding and finishing applications.
- Very high rate of cut, extended life expectancy.
- Self-sharpening grain ensures consistent performance
during entire life of the disc.
CG Lite Ceramic Grain
- Extremely versatile. Can be used on almost all light and
medium-duty metal applications, including carbon based
steels and stainless steels.
- Homogeneous mixture of Aluminum Oxide and
provides superior performance characteristics including
improved cut rate and extended disc life.
- Cool grinding action.
Silicon Carbide
- For grinding or finishing of non-ferrous materials such
as porcelain coatings, glass, marble, terrazzo, titanium
and plastics.
- Hard, man-made mineral with fracturing characteristics
that produce sharp cutting edges during operation.
- Exceptional grinding efficiency and outstanding
performance on materials with high or low tensile
strengths.
5/8" - 11 Turn-On Arbors
- Allows disc attachment to threaded tool spindle without a
back-up pad nut.
- Crimped to the 7/8" diameter plain arbor hole.
- Can be supplied with any 4-1/2" through 9"
diameter disc.
- Immediate delivery from factory at nominal additional
cost.
Accessories
Marvel offers a full line of accessories to improve operating
efficiency and increase disc life. These include back-up pads,
disc cutters, spanner wrenches and disc lubricant.
RPM Recommendations
Optimum grinding speeds will vary considerably with the type
of abrasive surface, material being abraded and the contours of
the surface. Back-up pads must be used regardless of the
application. They contribute to the safe operation of the
grinding process. They also reduce chatter, overheating and
lengthen disc life.
For most discs, recommended tool speed is 5400 RPM for 7"
discs and 4250 RPM for 9" discs. Since the deciding factor
is the speed at the disc perimeter, higher safe speeds can be
considered for 4", 4-1/2" and 5" discs.
